THE BISON SERIES

This series was inspired by my good friend, Chris Tollett, owner of Bison Auto in Abilene, Texas. After Chris and I kicked around the idea of creating a modern, geometric bison in corten steel, I got to work. That first sculpture became the foundation for a series that I'm still creating and expanding today.

Upcoming EXHIBITION

I'm excited to announce the creation of a new series of BAUGH FLOWERS for my upcoming exhibition at Fine Line Designs in Door County, Wisconsin.

Twenty years ago, in 2005, I created a series called Baugh Flowers. Now, two decades later, I'm revisiting that inspiration and bringing the series back to life.

Baugh Flowers?

When I was a kid, my Uncle Jim Baugh created balloon flowers as a Shriner's clown for the Shrine Circus. I was fascinated as I watched him twist, turn, and transform simple balloons into colorful, magical blooms. For a child with an active imagination, those moments left a lasting impression.

His creativity, humor, and ability to bring joy to others continue to inspire my work today.

Created in his memory, Baugh Flowers 2.0 celebrates that inspiration and reimagines it through sculpture, twenty years after the original series. Later this year, these new works will make their way to the beautiful landscape of Door County, Wisconsin.

Stay tuned.

Nic Noblique is a Texas-based sculptor whose career has been defined by a relentless drive to create on his own terms. Raised in the Midwest and immersed in the punk rock, skateboard, and snowboard cultures, he developed an independent spirit that continues to shape his work. Over the past two decades, his passion for art, design, and innovation has led to notable achievements across sculpture, engineering, public installations, exhibitions, and education.

Before dedicating himself to fine art, Nic was a professional snowboarder who placed in the inaugural Winter X Games in 1997. His curiosity for design and performance led him to study pliable materials engineering, where he developed and patented a groundbreaking center-point concave skateboard deck that remains an industry standard. Applying both creative vision and a deep understanding of physics, he went on to design and build indoor and outdoor skate and snow parks throughout the United States.

After a series of devastating injuries in his early twenties, Nic shifted his focus entirely to sculpture and fine art—a turning point that transformed his lifelong passion into a full-time vocation.

Since then, Nic has participated in numerous sculpture competitions, solo exhibitions, and group shows, collaborating with respected galleries, museums, and art centers across the country. His work extends beyond the studio through partnerships with charities, arts organizations, and community initiatives that use art to inspire, connect, and improve lives.

As an educator and mentor, Nic has taught graduate-level 3D art at Hardin-Simmons University and continues to cultivate emerging artists through apprenticeships in partnership with McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. He has also owned two highly regarded galleries, including an award-winning alternative art space in Galveston that uniquely combined a contemporary gallery, working artist studios, a tattoo shop, and an indoor half-pipe—earning recognition as the city's Best Art Gallery in 2008.

Today, Nic lives and works in West Texas with his wife, where they have raised their two daughters while creating a welcoming environment for artists to thrive. Their property serves as a hub for artist residencies, apprenticeships, collaborative projects, and creative exchange, reflecting Nic's enduring belief that art flourishes through community as much as individual expression.

My work explores the tension between strength and delicacy. I am drawn to the challenge of transforming rough, rigid steel into forms that feel graceful, ethereal, and alive. I want viewers to question the material itself—to momentarily forget its weight and hardness as the sculpture appears to bend, float, or bloom with an unexpected softness.

Color plays an equally important role in my work. It is never simply decorative; it is an emotional catalyst. Vibrant colors invite curiosity, activate the surrounding space, and encourage a physical response. Pink, for example, carries an energy that is youthful, optimistic, and disarming. It creates a dialogue between the sculpture, its environment, and the viewer, making the experience as much emotional as visual.

Every sculpture is designed and fabricated in my fully equipped studio on our West Texas ranch. I enjoy every stage of the process—from the earliest sketches and scale models to fabrication and installation—outsourcing only the final powder-coated finish. Having complete control over the work allows me to pursue ambitious ideas while maintaining the integrity of each piece.

Although sculpture is my primary medium, painting remains an essential part of my creative practice. It offers a different rhythm and way of thinking that continually informs my sculptural work. Moving between the two mediums helps me reset creatively, and during periods when injuries kept me from fabricating steel, painting became both a creative refuge and a reminder that making art is fundamental to who I am.

I am especially inspired by monumental public sculpture. Projects such as Inspiration, a 50-foot sculpture in St. Paul, Texas, embody what I love most about my practice: transforming an idea from a small maquette into a landmark that becomes part of a community's identity. The engineering challenges are immense, but so is the reward of seeing a vision realized at a scale that invites wonder.

Ultimately, making art is an act of optimism. It gives me purpose, challenges me to keep growing, and provides the creative outlet essential to my well-being. My greatest inspiration, however, comes from my family. My wife and our two daughters remind me every day to approach life and my work with resilience, curiosity, and gratitude. Those values are embedded in every piece I create.
